Rishi Valley School, Chittoor
Rishi Valley School is an Indian boarding school, located in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It takes only two hours from Tirupati and Chittor to reach the school’s location. This school was founded by philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti. Spread across 375 acres, this educational institution is covered by ancient hills and small-town villages. With a holistic approach, the school aims to provide students with robust academic strengths and extra-curricular activities such as discussions, assemblies, and club meetings. At Rishi Valley School, Chittor every morning students come together for the morning assembly and chant traditional prayers, and poems ranging from Rabindranath Tagore to Kabir.
Additionally, the school grants admission to children from class 4th to class 12th which is in the age group between nine to eighteen. The ninth and tenth-class students study the ICSE board curriculum, on the other hand, 11th and 12th students study ISC boards.
The school is recognized for Krishnamurti’s approach to teaching and curriculum, which includes building gratefulness for the environment, art and music, and sports in addition to existing subjects. The school runs the Rishi Valley Institute for Educational Resources (RIVER) program, the Rural Education Centre, and the Rural Health Centre.
Infrastructure
There are about 20 small hostels, which they refer to as houses. Each house accommodates between 12 and 22 students. In these houses, boys and girls from grades 4 and 5 live together with older girls from grades 6 and 7. Older students, both boys and girls, stay in separate houses, usually with students from two different grades in each house. Teachers who live in staff quarters within these houses act as house-parents. The aim of living in these houses is to build values such as cooperation, self-control, and sharing.
Apart from this, the school infrastructure is conducive enough that students can productively learn and nourish. The classrooms are well-maintained and well-equipped and have plenty of space where students can sit and study easily. Apart from this, there are hygienic washrooms and hygienic kitchens that cater to the student’s health appropriately. For education beyond the classrooms, the Rishi Valley School also possesses equipped and advanced science and computer laboratories. Hence, the institution does not compromise on providing the best assets or resources to their students for their educational well-being.
Sports
The Rishi Valley School puts a strong emphasis on the physical education of the students by incorporating manifold sports activities in the school curriculum. Their main motive is to aware the students about their body fitness and sense of well-being via sports programs that especially include yoga.
However, to cater to student’s fitness, the school possesses a football field, 3 basketball courts, and a volleyball court. Students enjoy participating in major field games like basketball and football, as well as volleyball, kho-kho, and table tennis. Their activities include regular physical fitness exercises and matches. The annual athletics meet is a key event that highlights and develops athletic skills and talent.
